Adrenal Fatigue / Exhaustion - Naturopath
Natural Treatment Specialist | Darwin, Melbourne, Gold Coast, Brisbane, Adelaide,
Perth, Canberra, Sydney ~ Alternative / Complementary therapist
Adrenal Fatigue seems to be presenting as a chronic and serious health complaint in more and more people. Therefore, the need for natural/alternative treatment has become very important. Although a simple urine test can be ordered to ascertain whether or not an individual has this condition, this does cost over $140 Australian dollars, and each time I have had a client undergo the test it has confirmed what I have suspected from diagnostic questioning. Symptoms of adrenal fatigue or exhaustion include generalised fatigue, and yet may still have difficulty sleeping; generalised lack of energy; feeling as though they are dependant upon coffee to give them a 'kick start' in the morning; mild depression; difficulty focusing their attention even on simple tasks; short-term memory deterioration; craving for salt or salty foods; weight gain; lack of libido/sex drive; afternoon slump in energy (generally between 2 to 4 pm); reduced ability to recover from illness; inability to cope with stress; and many more symptoms. If this sounds like you, natural/alternative treatment may be in order.
Adrenal exhaustion or fatigue may occur after prolonged exposure to stress or even short-term acute stress, such as a very demanding workload, severe relationship issues, major legal issues, death or severe illness of a loved one, etc.. Other stresses that the body may have been forced to endure could include long-term consumption of caffeine - coffee, tea or the popular energy drinks; poor dietary choices, including food intolerances/allergies which may be undiagnosed; toxin exposure, such as heavy metal poisoning (eg. mercury, copper, alumnium, arsenic, lead); other toxins include pesticides, herbicides, preservatives, artificial sweeteners, and radiation; excessive consumption of sugar, white refined flour products or alcohol; infection; fear (excessive exposure or over-response to); exposure to stressful situations or perceived stress; prescription or recreational drug exposure or abuse; poor physical habits such as excessive work hours or excessive exercise; and even constipation which significantly increases the toxin load on your body via a proces called autotoxication.
The condition can be accurately and easily diagnosed with a simple saliva test. 4 samples are taken at regular intervals throughout the day, and the levels of DHEA-S and Cortisol are measured. The results of this test are indicative of whether the symptom of fatigue is due to low adrenal function, or perhaps some other cause. Such other causes may include allergies, low thyroid function, infection, poor dietary choices, autoimmune disorder, or even chronic constipation.
Treatment of Adrenal Fatigue or Exhaustion
Natural / Alternative Treatment for extreme Fatigue or Exhaustion involves a number of therapeutic approaches, including firstly the removal of the stress - be it emotional, physical or biochemical. Of course, this is often easier said than done, especially in cases of high workload, toxin build up within the body, and particularly in cases of relationship or work issues. So treatment allowances have to be made depending upon the individual case, including supporting the adrenals as much as possible while the primary cause of that exhaustion is being addressed. Adrenal treatment includes taking a combination of nutrients (specific vitamins, minerals and amino acids), herbs, homeopathy, meditation, and other mind-body-energy therapies such as NLP and metaphysical counselling.
